Waking Up in Ouarzazat

We arrived in the dark... ate in a restaurant where we had to wear tuques and down-filled coats to stay warm (inside!!).. and eventually had to ask a taxi driver how to find our proposed riad for the night. One had advertised a pool, but I suspect it wasn't open in January...
In anycase, we found the first riad, were quoted a crazy expensive price, so we opted to look for another. The night watchman for the first riad took it upon himself to help us find it, as it was in another part of Ouarzazat, in the medina.
Seeing as the electricity was out in that part of the medina, and we had no idea where to turn anyway, I'd say our little brown-djhellapa-clad man was a gift!!
I am retracing the steps in daylight... just think what this could have been like in the pitch black.

We left the car in this lot, outside the medina walls for the night...

First, the route took us along the inside of the walls, down a hill...

...through narrow alleys, around corners...

...

... under tunnels (black!!) (dark!!) (could have been going anywhere!!)...

....around a few more corners...

.. and through a few more tunnels...

... to finally arrive at La Rose Noir.

Gorgeous!

Door to our second story princess room...

...second story...

... view form roof-top terrace...

...

... from this vantage point, can clearly see the traditional adobe construction of the walls...

... chilly for breakfast here, but nice to see the sunrise...

...we're definitely getting closer to the desert...

... what a beautiful riad!
