Excitement in Town this Morning!

The Nicole Daniel and her crew towed the Blue Whale from the fishplant to the wharf right next to the Glass Gallery... the whole town came to see... well, almost, but you get the idea. The flensing will begin right next door to the Gallery.

The big vessel towed the whale to the wharf, where the smaller net-setter took over to bring the whale to shore...

...where a tractor was ready to haul 'er in...

... but it turns out it needed the tow truck to haul the tractor to haul the whale...

It is very hard to think about how this wondrous animal died, and it is still strange for me to 'ogle' its body, but it is also an up-close happening that may otherwise never occur.

I can see the process from here.

Open For Business!

The Summer Studio and Gallery has been open for a week, and it has been great.
So many people came by to see and to appreciate and to personally pass on well-wishes and positive feedback about the Studio/Gallery, my cup is overflowing. I am very grateful for all this support, and I hope that things go well over the coming months. I am excited about being able to promote a few other artists as well, details soon to be posted; I had planned to put a call out for 'declarations of interest', but I never got the chance, all the weeks got booked by people who came in to see the space, and I wish I had more time and more space. It's all about learning, and for this trial season, I will go with this particular flow, which may, in fact, be the best method after all.
Onwards and upwards!

A Million and One Things...

With the Summer Studio (Glass Gallery and Studio) opening tomorrow, things have been somewhat busy; I am getting to most things, though, including putting a handle on the new-to-me stove (*free*)... note the hockey love.

Yesterday was a great day to paint the boards for signs and more shelves... today I worked on lettering... still have a ways to go!

Of course, I spend hours installing things... it's a relief to get to the smaller stuff, less worrisome, and less heartbreak if something happens to slip and fall.
In the early mornings, I generally have my coffee out by the water... it is beautiful here...

... BUT I miss home; the Summer Studio building does not have any windows on the sides or the back, my view is the bright orange house across the street from me, and for someone who has been watching the mountains and the water and the myriad (and never-ending) minute changes in the garden and woods for so many years, I feel out of touch.

On a positive note, however, I am getting closer--luckily!!-- to being ready for opening tomorrow.

Today, I even got the signpost up... after several trips across the road in search of a shovel, then another one, and finally a pick. Good times meeting the neighbours!
Tomorrow morning will be another early one... still a millions or so Things To Do before this all begins!
Hope to see you here sometime over the summer: 31 Main St., Rocky Harbour, NL. If you get lost, just ask for the one with an 'unfamiliar' name.
