Potential...!

It's a hopeful morning out there today... maybe we will get the sun this afternoon; it's been months since we were out in it last.

Blizzard Away, I Say, I'm Ready!

Now, having said that, I may change my mind tomorrow once the shovelling regimen gets put in place... but for now, things are quite cozy.

Took my break mid-dayish, got a good bit of blizzard wood in...

...picked up my other buddy...

... and with all three Buddies in tow...

... we explored more new trail sections in the beautiful woods.

Good times!

Shep, still keen to be the lead herd dog, loving every minute of it.
Now back to work.

Night Ski

It might as well be midnight, it's still so dark out in the evenings, but there's something really magical about a winter sky at night.

Clearing the Deck

Besides literally clearing the deck(s) (and steps and driveway and pagoda and Big Red's tent, and keeping an eye on the roofs--greenhouse and otherwise) of snow, I'm also getting caught up with projects started before Toronto...

...in this case, finishing up firing and trimming and refiring salmon..

...cleaning the glass, and refiring yet again.
This is good, things are sort of relaxed, and I am clearing workspace for new projects... I have a group show coming up in May, and need to really figure out how best to approach this. Here's hoping that a sorted studio space will also bring about a sorted mind space!!

The Brief Hiatus

At the Weather Office, they're claiming that Old Man Winter will be clawing his way back to the Rock by this evening, so it looks like our brief respite will soon be over. Although I look forward to the snow's return, I have to admit that this past week or so has been a real break from burning all my wood-- don't get me wrong, the stove is working all the time, but certainly not full-bore-stogged, which has certainly reduced the amount needed, and as for the rest of the house, haven't had to turn on additional heaters... in January no less!!

In the meantime, as an appreciation for the spring that was here if only briefly, and in anticipation of the real deal in a few month's time, here's a little tulip bowl I just finished, a custom-ordered wedding gift.

Let there be light!

Spring-Like-Melt at the Creek

Because of the unseasonally meltorama temperatures and rain, we have lost almost all the snow that Old Man Winter so ferociously created... and it went fast! Put me gum boots on the other day and in between the ice-floe-jig moves, we sloshed around the waterfall trail.

Path flooded in some sections...

... in others, run-off from the surrounding ravine created washouts, intermingling with the ice that used to be on the creek...

... high water and ice floes...

...geology...

...ice river...

The waterfalls going gangbusters...

...imagine tubing down that!

Freezer Not Working Properly

I was using the Great Outdoors as my freezer this winter, because there seems to be a lot of room out there, and during any given regular winter, things are kept quite frozen.
Now, however, I'm having to make all kinds of sauces and things... it's an inconvenient melting pot out there these days.

Crazy Winter

Two weeks ago, this was the scene... and we were just getting our winter groove going, loving the -5 to -10 degree days when things changed up again...

...to bring icy paths and driveways, visible greenery, rain, and...

...rainbows.
